After driving through a forest, crossing a winding stream, walking through mud, one finally reaches the young Jezdimirovics

Reaching the Jezdimirovic home in the village of Radalj, municipality of Mali Zvornik, requires a five kilometre ride along a rough forest road, a one kilometre walk through mud, and eight crossings of a winding a stream. Until recently, the only means of transport was by horse, but today there is the popular “Tomos” motorcycle. Kilometres away from neighbours and light-years away from civilization, little Dragana is celebrating her ninth birthday.

They say that their house during the period between the two world wars, was the most beautiful in the village. A kilo of beans is a treasure for them, and mice in their home a daily occurrence

It is never easy witnessing the harsh living conditions in which some children are raised. The Lončina family, single mother and her three beautiful daughters from Klupci by Loznica, are one such example. The house they were given to live in needs lots of work in order to provide them with normal living conditions. Their biggest problem at this time is that their home is overrun with mice!

From November 2005 to August 2020, the Charity organization Serbs for Serbs has raised 5 million Euros for over 2,600 socially disadvantaged families across the Balkans, which includes more than 13,500 children.

“Be careful, those are your only shoes” – children living in a 170 year old home with a big hole in the roof above their heads

The title of this report may seem exaggerated, but it is the harsh reality in which the Cvetanović children, Vlajko (5), Kristijan (8) and Boban (16) are being raised. Their 19th century home not only has a leaky roof and rotting windows, it also has rats and occasionally, snakes!

“Dad, Dad, a lizard” – they lived in a house with 300 snakes

An incredible, bizarre story took place in the village of Drnovac, by Boljevac. One night, a few years ago, the Šimunović family discovered as many as 300 snakes in their home. The parents and their three children immediately evacuated the home, which was later discovered to have snakes in the walls, foundation and attic.

Charity organization Serbs for Serbs organized charity dart tournament “Darts from the Block” at Break Bar and Billiards in Astoria with the goal of gathering funds to help the nine-member Stevanovic family from the village Kololec near Kosovska Mitrovica, who live in difficult and unsuitable conditions.

One family, half of a school – the Nedovićs await their eighth child in the heart of Šumadija

Vuk Karadžić school in the village of Pretoka in the municipality of Knić would probably not exist if not for the Nedović family. This family of seven children has it's three youngest attending this school which has only six students. As populations dwindle, as schools and villages become fewer and fewer, such families become increasingly important for the survival of local communities and communities across the country.

“God gave me four children, but with each I went through serious trials” – the story of the Stojkovic family from Dobrujevac

Usually we end our reports about first visits by creating a list of what help is needed. But this time, we'll do it differently. We visited the Stojkovic family in Dobrujevac near Aleksinac. Although they only asked for a rotary mower and hay baler, it was obvious that their home had been damaged by humidity and as well, needed insulation, eavestroughs, a pathway around the exterior and renovation of the rooms.

A ray of sunshine in a place of sorrow and pain – Nikolina (3) from Aleksinacki Rudnik

Three-year-old Nikolina Ristic lives in a dilapidated home in Aleksinacki Rudnik. In 1989, a tragedy befell this town when a fire claimed the lives of 90 miners. Along with the loss of lives came the end of the mine, leaving the people abandoned and with no prospect for the future.

"Birthday party from the block" in Melbourne

Our compatriots in Melbourne came up with a great way of birthday celebration that brings a spiritual benefit. Families Stefanovich and Eror have organised a "bundled" birthday party in the hall of Holy Trinity Parish in Brunswick, Melbourne, on Saturday 22 February. Instead of customary presents, the celebrants asked for donations for the Church and our reputable charity Serbs for Serbs.
