It is an honor to inherit great Pupin

Report: Frankfurtske vesti, M. Puric
The Serbian National Defense, the organization founded in 1914 in America by Mihajlo Pupin, elected on June 27 on its 74th congress in Chicago Nebojsa Zivkovic as its new president. This young man replaced Slavko Panovic who was at the head of the organization for 22 years and who was elected for the long-standing honorable president of the Serbian National Defense. In that manner the Serbian National Defense repaid him for the two decades of his dedicated work and effort.

With Nebojsa Zivkovic, the new president of SND, we talk one day after the elections, in the court of the Nova Gracanica monastery near Chicago on Vidovdan, after the Holy Liturgy served by the Bishop of the Diocese of New Gracanica – Midwestern America Longin.

- Each year on Vidovdan we celebrate the Holy Martyr Prince Lazar, because Vidovdan is also the slava of SND – says Zivkovic.

Nebojsa Zivkovic who has been active for years in the Charity organization Serbs for Serbs says that it is a great honor for him to be on the place of the president of this organization, especially since we know that its founder is Mihajlo Pupin.

- I was honored to take over the leadership of the organization in America. This year we celebrate 101 years of existence and that number and the name of the founder Mihajlo Pupin has its weight. There are great expectations of me – points out Zivkovic.

He says he wants to rejuvenate and increase membership and to initiate the Serbian information center in Chicago. Its purpose would be to help people who arrive at America and Chicago to find all information they need on one place.

- The tasks of SND are to inform the American and world public of the Serbian nation through the media, to promote and support in every possible manner the Serbian Orthodox Church among the American Serbs. Also, to spread Serbian culture and cherish Serbian history, language and Cyrillic script, and to morally and materially help the displaced and refugee Serbs – adds our interviewee.

HUMANITY ABOVE ALL

Many people in Chicago know Nebojsa Zivkovic as one of the most active members of the Charity organization Serbs for Serbs who in short notice, thanks to the quick charity actions, gained great reputation in the Serbian community. The primary goal of the organization is to help socially disadvantaged Serbian families in former Yugoslavia.

ORDER FROM THE PATRIARCH

Charity organization Serbs for Serbs in which Zivkovic is one of the most active members, received personally from patriarch Irinej the Order of St. Sava of second degree, the highest order of the Serbian Orthodox Church on Vidovdan in Gracanica on Kosovo and Metohija.
