On May 7, 2016, the Chicago Chapter of Serbs for Serbs organized for the first time the charity event Deca Za Decu at the New Gracanica Monastery in Third Lake, IL. The event was planned as a cultural performance by local children’s folklore groups to raise money for Serbian children in need. Along with folklore performances and music, there was plenty of good food and sweets to be enjoyed by all in attendance.

Folklore dancers from F.G. Oplenac (Sv. Jovan, Bellwood, IL), F.G. Avala (Sv Stevan, Chicago, IL), F.G. Moravac (Sv Nikola, Brookfield, IL) and F.G. Gracanica (New Gracanica, Third lake, IL) performed.

The folklore groups ranged from “mini” groups, children 4-7years old, up to “big” groups with kids 13-17 years old.

Along with the folklore performances, we were all treated to a wonderful performance by Etno singer Sandra Glisic, who sang Crvene Cvete, Suza Kosova and Usnila Je Dubok Sanak. All of the groups which performed received Certificates of Appreciation as a thank you.

The children, along with their parents joined together to collect over $3,500 for Serbian children in the Balkans. Many thanks to all who attended and performed, and a HUGE Thank You to all of the volunteers who helped the event go smoothly!!
